Bram Chardon taking the reins over from IJsbrand in 2016

IJsbrand Chardon announced this week that he plans to hand the reins of his four-in-hand over to his son Bram Chardon after the 2016 Four-in -Hand World Championships in Breda.

At this moment there are around eleven four-in-hand horses in the Chardons' stable, which means that Bram will have to opportunity to begin training immediately.

"Bram wants to compete once more for the world title at the 2015 Pony World Championships," tells IJsbrand. "After the worlds he wil begin competing with my pair of horses. From now until 2016, our focus will be on my four-in-hand as I have a good feeling, and would like to win another World Championship. Bram has the ambition to make the step over to a horse team after the Worlds in Breda. If he continues to have this ambition, I don't want to stand in his way and so I will give him the opportunity and support him. Bram is still young and if he changes his mind in the coming years, then I will continue to drive. We are absolutely not stopping, and we have bought a number of young horses that we are preparing for the future."

Brams Welsh pony team will stay after the Pony World Championships in Schipluiden: "The ponies are under no circumstance going anywhere," tells Bram. "They belong here and they stay here."
