Breda: Chardon takes the lead in the dressage

Four-time World Champion IJsbrand Chardon laid down a wonderful dressage test this afternoon in Breda, under sunny skies and ideal temperatures. where the temperatures. The stands were full and all eyes on were set on Chardon, who entered the impressive main stadium in Breda as the second to last start. The 27-time Dutch Champion achieved a score of 36,87 points and has taken the lead in the provisional standings.

Chardon drove a beautiful and relaxed test which had a lot of action, and very good collection and bending. The five members of the international Ground Jury unanimously placed Chardon with the first. His compatriot Theo Timmerman stands in second place some distance behind. Hungarian top driver Zoltán Lázár, who was the last starter today, drove an active and accurate test putting him in third place just behind Timmerman. USA’s Lisa Stroud impressed by driving her team of chestnut KWPN geldings to the provisional fourth place.

With Chardon and Timmerman in the lead, the Dutch are also on top of the team standings.
Whether they will be able to keep their lead will be apparent tomorrow, when the remaining 28 drivers will enter the arena for their dressage tests. Amongst them are the reigning World Champion Boyd Exell from Australia and 2014 silver medallist Chester Weber from the USA.
