Last weekend Ypäjä in Finland hosted an FEI course for promotion to FEI level 1 steward. Ten stewards were trained by the Belgian FEI Steward General Jan Devaere and FEI Steward Leen Devaere. All candidates successfully passed the exam at the end of the course.
The stewards, of whom most were female, which caused some hilarious moments, came from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. After an intake exam, they were trained by Jan and Leen on both theoretical and practical parts. The Finnish single driver Ben Simonsen and Finnish pony pair driver Anna Lehtiö cooperated in the practical part at the Equine College of Finland. During this part, one of the instructions was to remark the non-permitted situations of the competitors and their horses in both dressage and marathon turnouts.
The ten stewards wrapped up the successful and instructive weekend with a theoretical and an oral exam, which they all passed without problems.
