The FEI World four-in-hand Driving Championship in Riesenbeck in August 2012 will be the last World Championship for Germany’s Christoph Sandmann. The experienced driver has announced his retirement as active driver.
‘I won my first medal exactly 20 years ago in Riesenbeck. I think this is a good moment to stop.’ Sandmann won individual bronze and team gold in 1992. In 1994 and 2006 he contributed to the German team gold as well. In 2002, the driver from Lähden won individual silver behind Chardon. In 2006 he took the individual bronze medal again at the WEG in Aachen. Sandmann has been a valuable member of the German team since 1990 and contributed to many German successes and medals.
Last season, Sandmann put his horses at the disposal of his daughter Anna and his stable manager Carola Diener. And not without success. Carola won gold at the World Pair Driving Championships in Conty 2011 where 15-year-old Anna finished 18th individually.
