Beekbergen: Chardon in the lead

IJsbrand Chardon pulled out all of the stops to take the lead in both the international four-in-hand horse division as well as the Dutch national championships in Beekbergen today (Friday). With a score of 39.46 he stands just 0.08 points in front of reigning World Champion Boyd Exell and nipping at their heels in third place is Chester Weber from the United States.

"The top drivers today really put up a challenge", tells member of the jury Hermann van den Bosch. "The difference in points came down to nuances. They scored high on correctness and movement. Chardon has two wonderful leaders with tons of expression and movement. The wheelers are more plain, but very stable and good in the contact. Chardon won today on the contact and the finishing touches."

This is just the second competition for this team. The driver from Den Hoorn, was extremely enthousiastic over his horses: "My leaders are a dream, every driver dreams of driving horses like that! I normally drive a team of dark horses, but with the vetran Darco out with a small injury, we had to make some changes." Chardon made the choice of putting Zion and Winston in the lead. "It worked out really well, as the results clearly show. I might just use this team at the European Championships in Aachen."
