Bordeaux: Kick-start for Boyd Exell

Despite the late night hour on Saturday evening, the tribunes in Bordeaux were filled with enthusiastic spectators who witnessed Boyd Exell’s victory in the first competition of the eighth leg of the FEI World Cup™ Driving. Koos de Ronde finished second, ahead of Edouard Simonet.

International Level 4 Course Designer Jeroen Houterman from the Netherlands had laid out a challenging course in which technical parts and speed were well combined. Boyd Exell was the last man in and drove a clear round and set the fastest time of the evening, putting Koos de Ronde in second position. Boyd’s former back stepper and now student Edouard Simonet put down an excellence performance by staying clear with his lovely team of Arabo Friesian horses. Ijsbrand Chardon just missed the podium when a second ball fell during his round, putting him in fourth place.

Wild card driver Benjamin Aillaud finished fifth, ahead of Georg von Stein and second wild card competitor Sébastien Mourier who made a mistake in the second marathon type obstacle, which cost him precious seconds.

The FEI World Cup™ driving competition in Bordeaux starts on Sunday 5th February at 16.45 hrs.
