CAI Beekbergen gets CAIO status and bids for 2025 World Pairs

The CAI in Beekbergen has been popular with international participants for several decades. Following the successful 33rd edition in 2022, the organization continues to work on a multi-year plan to take the event to a higher level. In addition to the World Cup Qualifier for the Horse Four-in-Hand class, 2023 will be a Nations Cup as well. Furthermore, Beekbergen has applied for the FEI Driving World Championship for Pairs in 2025.

CAIO4*

The OC of Beekbergen has been working hard and is planning to improve the infrastructure and the obstacles, among other things. That is already happening in 2023, as the competition received the O-status for the Horse Four-in-Hand class. This means that in addition to the individual competition, national teams also compete for the Nations Cup. The O-status is awarded just once a year per country. Beekbergen is therefore delighted and honored to have the status for 2023. For that reason the marathon will now consist of 8 obstacles.

FEI Driving World Championships for Pairs

In addition to Four-in-Hand horses, Beekbergen is very popular among pair drivers. Head of the Organizing Committee Mieke van Tergouw is a former Pair Driving World Champion herself and was a highly esteemed member of the Dutch team for many years. Now that she is no longer competing, she believes it is the time to organize a World Championship in her favourite discipline. “Every year we get the question why don’t we organize a World Championship here. I feel now is the time to do it”, she says.

Candidates 2025

Every two years there is a World Championship for Horse Pairs. In 2023 the Championship takes place in Le Pin au Haras, France. The last time the World Championship took place in the Netherlands was in 2021 in Kronenberg. Beekbergen has put two possible dates in their bid for 2025: 20-24 August or 27-31 August.

Budapest, Hungary is the other bidder for the Championship, where the very successful 2021 FEI Driving European Championship for Four-in-Hand was held and hosted an international event in 2022. The venue is in the heart of the Hungarian capital with brand new facilities and obstacles. The date Budapest has applied for in their bid is 18-21 September 2025.

2023

The CAIO4* in Beekbergen will be held from 27 to 30 July 2023. In addition to the international competitions, the Dutch Four-in-Hand Drivers and Para Drivers compete for the Dutch Championship. As in the previous years, admission is free for the event.
