CAIO Pau: Win for Marion Vignaud and France

After winning the cones yesterday, Claire Lefort (FR) also won the marathon today at the international driving competition in Pau. Marion Vignaud won the overall competition and the French team took the victory in the Nations Cup, before Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

After the cones yesterday, quite a bit of rain had fallen. Although the ground between the obstacles became a bit heavy, the course remained passable and everyone finished the marathon.

The differences in the marathon were, same as in the cones on Saturday, very small. Leader Kelly Houtappels – Bruder had an unlucky day. She ran a very fast marathon, maintaining the lead over Vignaud, but in the water hazard she missed gate B and was eliminated as a result. Rudolf Pestman also had a moment of bad luck when his groom Henri fell off the carriage at the hill in obstacle 4, giving him five extra penalty points. He finished tenth in the marathon as a result, but did not relinquish his bronze podium place in the final standings.

Marie Schiltz cleverly climbed to silver in the final standings with a third place in a clear marathon. Joop Gommers finished sixteenth with his new horse Guus and has again gained a lot of experience.
