Dries Degrieck to make World Cup debut

This coming season, the Belgian four-in-hand driver Dries Degrieck will make his debut in the World Cup series for four-in-hand horses. The talented 25 year-old driver currently holds the 11th place in the world rankings, but with Chester Weber not competing this season, Degriek will move to 10th place and will be part of the World Cup series for the first time.

The FEI announced the beginning of August that the 10 drivers who had qualified for the 2019/2020 World Cup season, would also be qualified for the coming World Cup season. The FEI was forced to make this decision as there were just not enough qualification competitions due to the covid-19 epidemic.

At the moment Lyon, Budapest, Geneva, Mechelen and Leipzig will make up the World Cup season. The finale will be driven in Bordeaux on 6 and 7 February 2021.

Dries did have the opportunity to compete last year in Mechelen with a wild card where he finished in a fantastic second place behind Boyd Exell. At Koos de Ronde’s large indoor competition in Zwartewaal the young driver also finished in second place behind the World Cup winner and a few weeks later he won the competition in Luik. Dries will be starting in Budapest and Leipzig.
