Honorary Title ‘Fahrmeister’ awarded to Eckardt Meyer

Eckhardt Meyer is already driving instructor, judge, course designer and national coach for the horse singles and pairs. Due to his successful and long-term commitment, he also received the honorary title 'Fahrmeister'. He received this at the gala in Warendorf, to loud cheers and shouts "Ekki, Ekki!" of the attendants.

The title ‘Fahrmeister’ is awarded by the German Equestrian Federation (FN) to people who have distinguished themselves through their long and passionate commitment as a trainer with excellent results, to those that have delivered excellent personal performances and made a special contribution to the driving sport. After Bernhard Duen, Michael Freund and Ewald Meier, Eckardt Meyer is only the fourth trainer to receive this title. Fritz Otto-Erley, driving sport coordinator of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports (DOKR): “It’s an honor,” he said turning to Meyer. “You deserve it!”

Eckardt Meyer was very successful in show jumping before he shifted his focus to driving. In 1991 he became German champion with his horse pair and in 1990 and 1994 he won silver. At the 1991 World Championships, he won the individual silver medal. Two years later he again won silver with the German team.

He became national coach for the German horse singles and pairs in 1995. In the years that followed, the singles and pairs led by Meyer collected six gold, five silver and six bronze medals at various World Championships. Eckardt Meyer was awarded the silver “Deutsche Reiterkreuz” in 2012 for his great commitment to the driving sport.

He has been a DOKR-honorary trainer since 2019 and is closely involved with the horse singles and pairs, depending on which discipline is working towards the World Championship that year. In that short time five medals were won, including the team bronze at the World Championships Singles in Le Pin au Haras this year.
