FEI European Championships Budapest 2021 in danger?

The postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games is also affecting the 2021 FEI European Championships for Jumping, Dressage, Para-Dressage, Driving and Vaulting being held in Budapest, Hungary.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will start on 23 July and will end on 8 August 2021, while the Paralympic Games will take place from 24 August to 5 September 2021.
The FEI has contacted the Hungarian Equestrian Federation and the organizers of the European Championships regarding changing the date of the Championships that are scheduled for the last week of August and the first week of September 2021.
„Unfortunately, there is not much time for reconsideration and the situation is aggravated by the fact that the European Championships is part of a Nature Exhibition. The two events require close coordination from the organizers, as the European Championships and the exhibition space require the same facilities in many cases,” states the press release by the Hungarian Equestrian Federation.

The organizing of the European Championships for the five disciplines is thus seriously jeopardized. The OC is looking into the possibility of organizing the non-Olympic competitions at additional venues if necessary.
