Geneva 2022: Good start for Bram Chardon’s World Cup season

For Bram Chardon, the world cup competition in Geneva is the first of this season. He immediately left his calling card in today's warmup round and won convincingly. The battle for the 2nd and 3rd place was an exciting battle between the Belgian Dries Degrieck and Glenn Geerts. It ended in narrowly favor of Degrieck.

The Palexpo in Geneva is a huge arena. The course was therefore long and had everything you can think of in an indoor marathon: two marathon obstacles, water, a speed box, and cunningly arranged cones. All six participants also completed the second round, with a gate omitted from both marathon obstacles. The ranking was based on the result of both rounds.

Exciting battle between the Belgians

The Swiss driver Jérôme Voutaz had an unfortunate error on gate two in the first round, but got his crowd on their feet in the second round. In the end, he just missed out on the podium in fourth place.

There was an exciting battle between the two Belgians Glenn Geerts and Dries Degrieck for the second place prize money. In the first round Glenn drove a very strong clear round. Dries had an early ball in this round, but nevertheless he was 2 seconds ahead of his compatriot. In the second round, Glenn went the extra mile. He came out of the first marathon obstacle fast and smooth, cutting lines where possible and crossing the finish line clear with a final time of 322.06 over both rounds. Dries also remained clear in the second round, but now was slightly slower than Glenn. His lead from the first lap was just enough for second place. With a difference of only 0.36 seconds he took the second prize.

Unbeatable

Bram Chardon was in a class of his own today. In the first round he immediately chose the shortest possible lines. He was the only one to turn left out of the speed box and therefore came closer to gate eight. With a clear round in 164.51 it was a great start to his indoor season. In the second round he didn’t need that extra risk and turned right out of the speedbox. Again it went smoothly and he left all the balls up. With a final result of 306.64, he was by far the best today.

Tomorrow at 11.15 a.m. local time is the competition where the World Cup points will be divided. This can be followed live via FEI Youtube.
