Jérôme Voutaz wins over Bram Chardon and Koos de Ronde

This morning during the first round of the World Cup competition in Mechelen, it seemed that Bram Chardon (NED) had won after crossing the finish line in the drive-off. Yet nothing could be further from the truth.

Four additional penalty points

The judges made a correction of four additional penalty points for a dropped ball in obstacle ten. As a result, Bram’s time changed from 258.16 seconds to 262.16, which was 0.27 seconds more than competitor Jérôme Voutaz (SUI). Voutaz therefore takes the win and will start last tomorrow, during the battle for the World Cup points.

Koos de Ronde and Glenn Geerts also clear

Koos de Ronde (NED) and Glenn Geerts (BEL), just like Voutaz, left all the balls up. With the times of the first and second round added up, they finished in 266.73 and 268.09 seconds. That was good enough for third and fourth place. Dries Degrieck (BEL) would have been good with his time of 271.15, but a ball in obstacle ten of the first round and a ball in obstacle six of the drive-off widened the gap to his competition with eight extra penalties.

Micheal Brauchle (GER) was not as fast in the first round as expected. The second round was better. As a result, he left Benjamin Aillaud (FRA) behind in the final standings.

Tomorrow the battle for the World Cup points will start in Mechelen at 10:00 PM local time. Watch the live stream here
