Leipzig 2022: Bram Chardon takes the lead

Bram himself was a bit stunned at the end of the competition, but Bram Chardon won the first round of the World Cup final. “It was very fast, but I didn’t expect to be so much faster than Boyd.” With a faultless round, that was a tight 8 seconds faster than his biggest competition Boyd Exell, Bram won the first round.

In spite of the late start time of this competition, the stands were packed with spectators. The spectators were living every round that each driver made, and even on this first day of competition there was a real championship final atmosphere. “The public here is amazing,” said the winner. “They really helped me. The horses reacted to the atmosphere, and I thought, ‘so long as I can keep control, I’m just going to let them go’. I was going, just like Boyd, for a faultless round. Usually, after the first round, I am behind him.”

Exell second

Bram drove last after Boyd had driven a faultless round, that was up until then, the fastest. The 143.35 from Boyd was, in comparison with the previous rounds, unbelievably fast. Coming out of obstacle 9, he chose a slightly different line than the other drivers. “The tactic was not to make any faults, and that we achieved,” evaluated Boyd. “I’m very happy with the horses, they were excellent. Bram can drive very fast, we saw that in Geneva. There were more turns to the right, and that was lucky for him, because his team turns to the right, easier than left. For my team, it is exactly opposite. Sunday the difference between us is approximately 1 ball, and a small mistake in this course is easy to make.” Bram drove a 135.80. He cut the line to number 11 a bit in order to take a line through obstacle 5.
