London 2022: Boyd Exell wins again

Today Boyd Exell (AUS), who has won all the competitions he has competed in so far this World Cup season, competed against Bram Chardon (NED), the reigning World Cup champion, for the first time. Bram drove his first World Cup competition of the season in Geneva last weekend and won it. Boyd Exell did not compete in Geneva.

Bram drove the world cup competition in London for the very first time today. He qualified himself for the drive-off with a fast time and one dropped ball, but ran into communication errors in the drive-off. Koos de Ronde (NED) drove a clear first round with a good time which qualified him for the drive-off. Boyd Exell ran over an element of obstacle 4 in the first round, but his super fast time qualified him for the drive-off as well.

Drive-off

In the drive-off, the F gate of obstacle 4 and the E gate of obstacle 8 were not driven. Bram started first. A ball immediately fell at gate 2 and then he missed gate A in obstacle 4. As a result, he ended up in the middle of the obstacle. He had to maneuver out between the undriven gates to rejoin the A. That costed him lots of time.

Koos de Ronde also drove the ball off of gate 2. In the remaining of the course he had no mistakes and was fast. With that he placed himself above Bram. Boyd did nothing different than what we’ve come to expect from him this season. He remained clear, was a few seconds faster than Koos and won.

Wild cards

Chester Weber (USA) just missed out on the second round, but is clearly improving throughout the season. Dries Degrieck (BEL) was very successful in the Extreme Driving class yesterday, but came to a halt in obstacle 8 when he almost missed the E. Benjamin Alliaud (FRA) and Daniel Naprous (GBR) finished sixth and seventh with a difference of 0.22 penalty points.

Boyd Exell and Daniel Naprous drive in London with a wild card. That means their results will not count towards tomorrow’s battle for World Cup points.
