After winning a gold medal at the Pair Horse World Championships in 1991, Werner Ulrich made the step over to a four-in-hand. In 1993 he had already won his first national title and this past season he was once again crowned Swiss champion for the 19th time.

The high point of his career was winning the individual gold medal at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome. Other big wins included the 2005 CAIO Aachen and Breda as well as being the FEI Top Driver that year.

Ulrich has competed in the World Cup circuit almost every year consecutively since his four-in-hand debut, and has won various competitions including most recently in Stockholm in 2012.

Werner Ulrich will not be completely hanging up his reins, but will be starting a pair of horses this coming season as well as bringing along a number of young horses.
