Exell successful in Pau

Despite tremendous efforts of the organising committee, the CAIO4* for horse teams and CAI3* for horse pairs in Pau last weekend only counted seven competitors. But the numerous spectators enjoyed the performances of the drivers and saw reigning World Champion Boyd Exell win all three phases of the competition with his completely new team.

It was the first time that Exell used the beautiful pair of KWPN-horses with which Josef Dibak (ITA) won bronze at the 2015 World Pair Championships. Exell purchased the pair some time before Fábiánsebestyén and put them together with a pair of horses formerly owned by USA’s Casey Zubek and a new Lipizzaner horse which he used in marathon and cones: “I was very pleased with the horses and with the results. The horses have really big paces, they gave me an amazing feeling.”

Exell was also very pleased with the event: “Pau is a fantastic competition and the public was amazing. During the show jumping class of the 4* eventing competition which was run at the same time, many spectators chose to watch the driving marathon. This show deserves more competitors and the drivers who weren’t there really missed out on it.”

The second place in the four-in-hand class was claimed by Sebastien Vincent from France, followed by his compatriot Sebastien Mourier.
The pairs class was won by co-organizer Frédéric Bousquet who celebrated his birthday on Sunday.
