Roland Istvan Varga crowned new Balkan Champion

This year’s Balkan championship for pairs was held last weekend in Osorhei, Romania, where local hero Roland Istvan Varga took both the individual and the team title with the Romanian team.

Dobrovitz Family take top 4 places

Varga took the lead in the dressage, finished third in the marathon and first in the final cones competition. The silver medal went to his compatriot Gergo Rakoczi while the bronze medal was won by Slovenian driver Miha Tavcar.

In addition to the pairs competition, Osorhei also hosted a four-in-hand class with top drivers József Dobrovitz and József Dobrovitz jr. who claimed the top four places in the rankings, both starting with two four-in-hands.

Fantastic punctuality and hospitality

The officials and athletes were very pleased with the organisers. One of the world’s top judges, Spanish level 4 judge Joaquin Medina Garcia, was a member of the Ground Jury and mentioned that the most satisfying part in the organisers’ efforts was their punctuality and hospitality: ’’Whenever you asked for something they organized it immediately.’’ Foreign judge Hillar Talts from Estonia, an experienced organizer of combined driving events himself, noticed some small details which were not hugely important for the wider public, but which greatly contributed to the overall picture and the success of the event.
