Aachen 2023: Boyd takes the lead

Today the four-in-hand marathon was held in Aachen. It was an eventful day, as the leader after the dressage, Chester Weber (USA), was disqualified. Boyd Exell has taken over the lead of the intermediate classification after his second place in the marathon and second place in the dressage.

Michael Brauchle won the marathon today, less than one starting point differentce between him and Boyd Exell. Koos de Ronde was the best Dutchman today and finished in third place. IJsbrand Chardon finished fourth and is now second in the intermediate standings.

Bram Chardon started the competition well after the dressage and the Top Score Competition, but unfortunately could not continue in top form today. “I had the same lineup as yesterday when I finished second in the Top Score Competition, but it didn’t work today. I had too little steering with the leaders and they were too erratic in transitioning forward. I had two balls and made some steering errors myself, so this was not my day,” he says. “I still have the feeling that I am on track for the European Championships in Exloo. I will then use a different leader.”

Chester Weber made a mistake in the marathon course today. He went through obstacle five to obstacle seven and was disqualified. He therefore is no longer participating in the fight for the title.
