Axel Olin switches to driving a horse pair

Sweden’s international four-in-hand driver Axel Olin will start next season with a beautiful horse pair. Hoefnet spoke with the sympathetic driver about his choice.

Make a change

“I have been driving a four-in-hand for around 10 years now and my horses became too old to be able to continue to compete at high level. We decided to make a change and to start driving a horse pair. The famous harness maker Henk van der Wiel from Achel in Belgium helped us to find two super grey horses. We are looking forward to an exciting future with these top horses! They are only five years old and the plan is to start competing with them at international level next year.”

New sponsor

Axel Olin can count on the support of a new sponsor, Mathias Niebel, who is the owner of the two above mentioned horses and a third grey horse which completes the pair. “My goal is to compete at the highest level with his new pair. The drivers from e.g. the Netherlands, Germany and Hungary are very strong, but I am looking forward to compete against them!”

Learn from the best

Axel has learnt a lot in the past years from a.o. Michael Freund, Boyd Exell and Glenn Geerts: “I took training from these top drivers and you learn something different from every trainer. I try to use the things that work best for me and fits best in my own system.”
