New international adventure for Edouard Simonet

The Belgian team driver Edouard Simonet will compete internationally again this year with a new team of KWPN horses. Since 2019, Edouard has lived in Spain with his wife Isabel and their twin sons born in September 2023.

The young family lives in Finca Quarto Salado, located in Andalusia. The location has been in the family for generations and is located in a rural area on the banks of a natural salt lake, which provides a wintering place for hundreds of pink flamingos. During the summer months the lake is dry and is the ideal ground for training the horses.

Driving career

In addition to training his six horses, Edouard divides his time with coaching foreign drivers and he trains the German team of pair drivers. With his young team, Edouard took part in Spanish national competitions and won the Andalusian Championship last year. Beginning this month, Team Simonet will start a two-month European tour with competitions in the Netherlands, Germany and France. After Kronenberg, Lähden follows, Saumur will conclude the driving trip.

Highlights

From 2010 to 2012, Edouard Simonet was active as a trainer and groom for Boyd Exell, then living in Great Britain. This was followed by seven successful years as a stable driver at the Belgian Arabo-Friesian sports and breeding stable Jelle’s Home in Pelt. During that time he achieved wonderful results, with individual silver at the European Championships in Gothenburg 2017 and individual bronze at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon 2018 as highlights. Edouard also achieved numerous podium places with the Belgian team, together with Glenn Geerts and Dries Degrieck. We previously reported that Edouard will join the Belgian Four-in-Hand team again this year.
