World Cup Final Bordeaux: Boyd Exell narrowly ahead

Around midnight the first round of the World Cup final was held in Bordeaux. The stands remained packed and the audience was treated to an exciting competition. This first round partly counts for the final result, because half of the difference in seconds between the winner of the first round and the other drivers is counted and added to the times in the following round.

This formula meant that all participants drove straight away. The fastest time was set by Bram Chardon. But in the first marathon obstacle a ball rolled and he finished in second place. Boyd Exell was the only one who remained clear. His time of 127.38 was just under a second slower than Bram’s. The Australian was very lucky when he took the bridge for the second time. He skimmed past gate 11 and just missed hitting it.

Fast rounds

IJsbrand Chardon finished third today. He drove fast and smooth, but had a ball on gate 4 due to a foot error by one of the horses. Koos de Ronde started energetically, but in one of the marathon obstacles an element went over and later another ball fell. He also couldn’t get the speed that both his compatriots had. Jérôme Voutaz and Dries Degrieck came to an almost equal end result, with the advantage of Voutaz’s greater speed, being cancelled out by the extra ball of the Swiss.

The Final

On Sunday afternoon Boyd Exell will start last and second to last starter Bram Chardon will have to make up about one and a half seconds on him to extend his title. So it promises to be a super exciting final with a drive-off for the top three drivers after the first round. At 4.45 pm it’s time. You can follow the competition via the live stream of Clipmyhorse.
